Mauricewood Mining Memorial
Around 134 years ago 63 men & boys perished in a fire at Mauricewood Pit in Penicuik. One boy was 12 the same age as our PAYFC 2011 Blues.
Today on International Workers Memorial Day these footballers cleaned up the Mauricewood Mining Memorial to remember all those who have been killed or injured at work.
Thankfully today boys and girls no longer work in such conditions in this country. They are educated in school and these P7 boys attend the local primaries of Mauricewood, Cornbank, Cuiken and St Cuthbert’s in Edinburgh.
The boys have written a letter to the council asking advice on getting the lettering redone.
Well done lads.
